Therapeutic Permaculture

Gardening is more than just a means to producing fresh fruit and vegetables; it has been shown to have therapeutic benefits, improving the psycho-social integration of marginalised and disadvantaged members of society, and improving the quality of life for the elderly and for people with chronic ailments.

In addition to the involvement of the Siyakhana group of CBO's, the Siyakhana project has established an outreach project in partnership with the Twilight Children NGO to involve the Inner City's street children in regular food gardening activities. At the actual site of the garden, the street children and other beneficiaries are taught how to care for the land, how to nurture living creatures, and how to work together to grow food and herbs.
